Course Information
Our Level 3 Paediatric First Aid (PFA) course is one of our most popular – and for good reason. Whether you’re working in childcare or caring for children at home, knowing how to respond in an emergency is essential.
This course is Ofqual-regulated, Ofsted-compliant, and meets EYFS requirements. It’s suitable for anyone caring for children from birth to puberty.
Legal requirement: All newly qualified nursery staff and registered childminders must hold a full PFA certificate.
Anyone left in sole charge of children must complete the full Paediatric First Aid course, not just the emergency version.
Numbers
As per guidelines, one trainer can effectively deliver Paedriatic First Aid (PFA) training for up to 12 delegates.
We offer flexible formats to suit your practice:
Small group sessions (up to 6 delegates) – for more focused, hands-on learning.
Full group sessions (up to 12 delegates) – maximising team training while maintaining quality.
For larger practices, additional trainers can be arranged so every delegate receives effective instruction.
Duration
We offer two course formats to meet different learner needs, both fully Ofqual-regulated, Ofsted-compliant, and meet all EYFS requirements:
Option 1: Blended Learning (1 Day Online + 1 Day In-Person)
Day 1: Self-paced online learning
Day 2: Practical, classroom-based training
Meets legal requirements for childcare settings
Option 2: Full Face-to-Face (2 Days In-Person)
Two full days of classroom-based, hands-on training
Ideal for learners who prefer in-person instruction
Fully compliant with EYFS/Ofsted standards
Certification
Upon successful completion, learners will receive a Level 3 Paediatric First Aid certificate, valid for 3 years.
To maintain certification, candidates must complete the full 2-day course again before expiry.
In line with Ofsted recommendations, it is advised that all Paediatric First Aiders complete a 3-hour annual refresher to keep their skills current and prepared for emergencies.
Assessment
Learners will be assessed through a combination of:
Practical assessments – Demonstrating CPR, recovery position, choking response, and use of AED
Written assessments – Multiple choice and short-answer questions to confirm understanding of key topics
All assessments are conducted in a supportive environment with guidance from a Qualsafe-approved trainer.
