Brief Description of Level 1 Health and Safety in a Construction Environment (Leading to C S C S Green Card)
The "Level 1 Health and Safety in a Construction Environment" course is specifically designed to provide foundational knowledge and skills for individuals working in the construction industry.
In 2018, the UK experienced 19,147 workers killed, injured, and unwell, with 1.3 million people suffering from work-related diseases. To reduce these incidents, the government, businesses, and workers must work together.
Module 2: Hazards, Risks, Assessments and Controls
The module discusses dangers, risks, evaluations, and controls in work activities. It defines risks as potential harm to people, property, and the environment. Risk assessment helps select and design safer facilities, equipment, and procedures.
Module 3: Slips, Trips, Falls and Working at Height
This module emphasizing their importance in understanding and controlling them. It emphasizes the need for precise risk assessments and proper site cleanliness.
Module 4: Manual handling
This module focuses on safe physical load movement and support, including lifting, lowering, carrying, pushing, tugging, pouring, and pumping. To comply with health and safety regulations.
Module 5: Plant, Machinery and Noise
Module five discusses the hazards of plant machinery and noise issues, highlighting the need for proper management to protect workers. Plant machinery can cause injuries, such as cuts, stabbing, and punctures, and can also cause friction and abrasion.
Module 6: Respiratory Risks
This module discusses respiratory dangers and worker safety precautions in construction. Common hazards include dust and respirable crystalline silica, which can cause asthma and COPD.
Module 7: Fire, Electricity and Gas Safety
Module seven discusses fire, electrical, and gas threats and controls. Fires can be ignited by oxygen-burning fuel, such as lighters, heating, electrical equipment, cigarettes, matches, and other hot or sparking materials.
Module 8: Chemicals and Other Onsite Hazards
This lesson discusses chemical dangers and controls, including on-site sources of harm. Chemicals can enter the body through contact with skin or eyes, inhalation, ingestion, and injection.
Module 9: Vehicles, PPE and General Safety
Module nine discusses site vehicles, PPE, and safety. Vehicle hazards include loading, unloading, and refueling, which can cause harm or damage. Transport accidents occur at work, with 31 workers killed in 2016 and many injured.
Module 10: Your Pathway to Your CSCS Card
This level one health and safety in construction course offers a certificate for completing the qualification. It is part of the CS Green card application process.
